Spring into Action with Indoor Team Building

Posted on April 5th, 2013

Although team building is mainly recognised as an outdoor activity, indoor events and activities are equally beneficial, just as much fun and easy to organise. To suit the demands of any busy schedule, we’ve devised a range of indoor team building activities in Dublin and across Ireland that you can mix and match, to help overcome challenges and improve your business on a day-to-day basis.

Created to effectively develop team skills, increase business potential and open up possibilities, we offer a full programme of indoor events, indoors games and evening events for you to utilise, bringing your people together in a rewarding, yet fun, environment.

Indoor events on offer include team cooking workshops, tai chi and bodhrán percussion workshops. We also provide indoor games such as Hex puzzles, blindfold tent building and giant scalextric racing. Or if you fancy making a night of it, you can opt for evening events like casino nights, race nights and murder mystery challenges.

You can mix and match the events we provide to suit your particular business needs – all indoor events, indoor games and evening events can be carefully tailored to your specifications and hosted in a range of locations across Dublin and Ireland.

So why choose indoor team building? Or team building events at all, for that matter?

The truth is, businesses face a range of internal and external challenges every day. Globalisation, cost reduction, staff retention; these are just a few of the factors that filter into the working day, requiring companies to remain flexible while increasing competitiveness and tightening purse strings. Not easy in this ever-changing market, hey?

That’s where we come in. Our outdoor and indoor teambuilding events in Ireland are carefully designed, planned and delivered, ready to help improve your business potential.

Need more convincing? Here’s a bit of science to back it up…

Ever since Maslow (American psychologist and behavioural scientist) released his findings on the Hierarchy of Needs in 1954, it’s been proven that workplace motivation is an important factor in business success. Maslow discovered that everyone has basic needs to function – and until those basic needs are met, it is impossible for people to motivate themselves to advance further. In the business world, if you can see where your people are lacking, you can figure out how best to motivate them – this is where team building events prove vital.

Then of course, you have the findings of John Adair: approaching leadership from a practical angle, he discovered that leadership could be taught and that it is a transferable skill. He valued team building events because, he concluded that any task requires a team for maximum results – but if the team’s needs aren’t met and individuals are dissatisfied, the task will suffer. If the team don’t know how to work together, ultimately, they will fail.

And don’t forget the infamous Social Identity Theory; it concludes that individuals define themselves as individuals or members of a group, depending upon the politics of their organisation or culture. When a company invests in its people through indoor team building activities, it shows its commitment to its staff – and gets the same in return.

In short, when your people work as a team, your business is enhanced by a collaborative effort towards the same goals and outcomes, in a positive and effective manner. Team building events in Ireland, and the world over, enable you the opportunity to create, maintain and enrich your people into a seamless, motivated unit.

But remember! Despite the science behind it, indoor team building is far from dull: think creative, dynamic and downright funny! Our indoor events, indoor games and evening events are designed to bring out strengths, improve weaknesses, furnish people with additional skills – but to also instigate some laughs.

Book your indoor events, indoor games and evening events with us today and spring into action right now. You can thank us later!

The best stag or hen party in Dublin

Posted on March 19th, 2013

Picture this…

Scenario 1: Your best friend is getting married. You’re his best man, so it’s down to you to book his Dublin stag weekend. Problem is, you couldn’t organise a sesh’ in a brewery.

Scenario 2: Your sister is getting married. She’s asked you to organise a Dublin hen party – but she wants something different. Something everyone will remember.

Scenario 3: You moved away years ago, but your oldest school buddy from the Big Schmoke wants a Dublin hen party. And guess what? As bridesmaid, tag, you’re it.

So, what do you do?

  1. Panic
  2. Panic, then organise a slap up meal and a sesh’ in a brewery.
  3. Panic, then come to us for an outrageously brilliant adventure stag party or Dublin hen party with a difference. Clay pigeon shooting optional. No organisation necessary.

Feel free to go for A or B – sure, a slap-up meal and a few jars at the local are good craic – but we reckon C would be your best option.

Why are we so sure?

Firstly, we guarantee an unforgettable experience. There’s no other adventure stag party or hen weekend Dublin based like it.

Secondly, we’ve done all the planning and organising for you. Adventures, fun, accommodation – sorted.

Thirdly, we understand that your stag or hen wants a tailor-made experience and we’re always at hand to make sure you get everything you need to give them the perfect send-off.

Book a completely different adventure stag party or Dublin hen weekend and let your friends say goodbye to singledom in style.

We have two special Dublin stag weekend and Dublin hen weekend options available at our adventure centre in Courtlough. Whichever you choose, we guaranteed you’ll all have a ball.

Our most popular Dublin hen weekend or Dublin stag weekend package includes paintballing, a giant swing (yes, we’re serious!) and aerial trekking. Accommodation at The Belvedere Hotel and transfers to/from our adventure centre are included in the price. It’s €99.50 per person for one night’s accommodation or (€139.50 per person for two.

Now, we recognize there’s a recession on, so if this outside your budget – or even if you just fancy taking a walk on the wilder side – we offer a hostel –based alternative. Enjoy the same activities and adventure centre transfers, but stay in en-suite accommodation at Barnacles Hostel, Temple Bar, for just €79 per person (1 night) or €99 per person (2 nights).

If your hen or stag would enjoy even more of an adrenaline rush, our adventure centre has a heap of additional activities you can add on for just a tenner. Archery, climbing wall, clay pigeon shooting, zip line and abseiling – these are just a few of the options available.

(In case you need a hand, clay pigeon shooting is currently proving the most popular choice as an add on for the Dublin stag weekend.)

Contact us to let us know what you need for your stag or hen to give them a Dublin hen party or Dublin stag weekend to remember – and we’ll do the rest.

Get ready for an exciting weekend of mayhem and mischief!

This St Patrick’s Day, Celebrate Irish Business

Posted on March 11th, 2013

It’s reached that time of year again, when Irish people worldwide celebrate St Patrick, our national apostle, as well as everything Irish. St Patrick’s Day is recognized worldwide as a means of celebration, showing gratitude and Irish pride through a lively mixture of parades, traditional music, lucky shamrocks and green attire – with the added bonus of Lenten restrictions lifted for the day.

Ireland has always been a country celebrated for its beauty, charm, hospitality, music and storytelling, but we believe that Ireland has much more to offer the modern world. We believe that, post Celtic Tiger and mid recession, Ireland is also worth celebrating for its innovation, courage and endurance – especially in the world of Irish business.

Despite all the recent set backs, Irish business has continued to evolve, flourish and reinvent itself, using its Irishness and Irish roots to ensure success. Ireland and Irish business has, once again, endured in the face of adversity.

How? The answer is simple. By investing in its people.

If you’re an Irish business, looking to improve your business, upskill your staff and get a great return on investment, it would be worth your while investigating the benefits of teambuilding. More than just a buzzword or passing craze, teambuilding workshops provide your people with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to support, nurture and enhance your Irish business.

Now, isn’t that worth celebrating?

In light of St Patrick’s Day, here are three of our top Irish-themed teambuilding workshops on offer at Xtreme.ie:

Dublin City Mobile Phone Treasure Hunt

Combine strategic thinking and problem solving with this city-based teambuilding workshop that celebrates some of the capital’s top icons! Through ten, challenging missions, teams must work together to plot and perform a winning formula, outwitting their opponents through carefully devised and executed strategies.

Snakes out of Ireland

Test your team’s balance, group coordination and communication skills in our challenging snake pit. Requiring a minimum of eight participants, this is a great choice for a small Irish business, as well as departmental teambuilding within larger companies. Invest in this experience to benefit from improved teamwork, communication and motivation from your staff.

Bodhrán Percussion Workshop

For groups of 12 or more, this Irish roots-themed teambuilding workshop gives an insight into traditional Irish music in a vibrant, teamwork atmosphere. Designed to strengthen team dynamics, enhance communication and improve participation, our Bodhrán percussion workshop is more than just good craic. Perfect for businesses handling change, pressurized situations or strained staff relationships.

Contact us at Xtreme.ie to book your teambuilding event or to discuss what support your Irish business needs; we work with every company on an individual basis to ensure that you receive a personalized service that matches your exact requirements.

Happy St Patrick’s Day from everyone at Xtreme.ie!

How to get into the Christmas Spirit!

Posted on December 21st, 2012

Flagging motivation, lack of energy and a general bah-humbug attitude – does this sound familiar? If half of your colleagues and staff resemble bulldogs chewing a wasp, maybe it’s time to look at what’s going on and start getting into the festive spirit? It’s the end of year and people are tired; so make an extra effort to motivate your staff and get 2013 off to a flying start. Take some inspiration from Sir Cliff Richards (don’t groan – you know he’s your hero!) and don your happy face. After all, ‘tis the season to be jolly…

We challenge you to read on without singing the tune in your head!!!

Christmas time, mistletoe and wine
In other words, party, party, party! Your staff Christmas party can be a bit more original than a few beers and snacks – think Smartphone pub crawls or a teambuilding event followed by a hotel knees-up – but however you choose to celebrate, everyone needs to let their hair down. Bonding, strengthening relationships and support mechanisms, improving the feel-good factor; these are all benefits to be gained from stepping out of the office and having a bit of fun. It’s a well-known fact that everyone will work harder when they play harder. So why not motivate your staff and encourage some Christmas festivities right away?

Children singing Christian rhyme
It may sound like a cliche but a good old sing song really does get the lungs going and the oxygen pumping – and you don’t need to wait until your staff Christmas party to get vocal. Now, people may be reluctant at first, but after a few minutes (or a few drinks, depending on where you are) you’ll find everyone joining in. As a direct result, the atmosphere will get lighter and people become energised. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourself! We have some great interactive musical teambuilding events you can book – it doesn’t whether you’re tone deaf or a Barry White wannabe, you’ll get a kick out of these activities and the opportunity to improve your team dynamics and get 2013 off to a flying start.

With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree
Forget the boring socks and jocks, surprise them with the gift of adventure this Christmas! Reward good performance or use as a staff Christmas party raffle prize, but inject some fun into the lives of your friends and colleagues with our gift vouchers. Available in denominations from €5 up to €250, these stocking fillers can be bought and received instantly online – perfect for a last-minute Christmas gift. All gift vouchers can be redeemed against our weird and wonderful teambuilding events and adventure days. What are you waiting for? Book now!

A time to rejoice in the good that we see
In business, it’s important to reward peak performance – and not just where money-related results are concerned. Sure, your business needs to make a profit, but your company ethos and the attitude of your staff are crucial elements that need fostering. To motivate your staff, make sure you reward your people when positive goals are achieved and be flexible with what you view as a ‘reward’. Give an afternoon off, provide extra (and wanted) responsibilities, provide some fun teambuilding events away from the office (they’ll also benefit your business), or allow for creative time rather than goal-specific work.

OK, so you’ve had enough of Cliff? Fine, we understand. But you get the idea… Brush off those party frocks and Christmas jumpers and start having some fun right away to get 2013 off to a flying start. You’ve earned it!

Give them a Christmas gift they’ll love

Posted on November 30th, 2012

Although we’re aware that Christmas is about a lot more than presents, we also know that buying gifts can be difficult – especially when we live in such a dynamic, ‘live fast and buy even faster’ age. Which, let’s face it, makes us all a bit trickier to buy for.

But all is not lost. Even if you haven’t yet bought as much as a stocking filler, don’t worry! We’ve got plenty of great Christmas gift ideas for you. Whether you’re looking to buy a memorable present for a special someone, or searching for an exciting family day out, we have a Christmas gift suitable. We’ve done the hard work for you. All you have to do is keep reading…

Computer geeks
Get them to forget their shoot-‘em-up’s for a day and send them out into their own Xtreme.ie war zone with one of our paintball adventure experiences. If they’re more Silent Hill than MarioKart and would like a bit more action, take a look at our Octane package which offers not just paintball, but a host of other daring adventure activities including off-road power-turn buggies and aerial trekking.

Family fun
Looking for something for a family that has it all? How about one of our family adventure days? On offer throughout the year, our family adventure days are suitable for kids aged 7+ and are designed to make sure everyone gets involved – and has fun! Activities on our family day out include aerial trekking, zip lines, climbing walls, abseiling and the unforgettable fan descender. Convinced yet?

Adrenaline junkies
If wild can never be wild enough, look no further than our aptly named Adrenaline Package; a four hour Xtreme.ie adventure experience packed with zip lines, climbing walls, archery, giant swings, abseiling and aerial trekking. This is one Christmas gift that’s guaranteed to get the heart racing and put a smile on any thrill-seeker’s face.

Fussy monkeys
Young or old, you know the type we mean; can’t make their mind up for love nor money and whatever they choose, they wish they’d gone for the other option. So decide for them with an adventure package that involves a range of activities to whet their appetite and satisfy even the most indecisive among us. Try our Dynamo adventure package – it covers all bases with aerial trekking, an indoor climbing wall as well as archery included. You can read our full list of adventure activities here.

Don’t forget the kids
Get one of our adventure experiences for kids and we guarantee you two things: 1) no one else will have bought the same Christmas gift and 2) it won’t get returned! We have a variety of adventure activities suitable for kids aged 7+, whatever their interests. After all, kids just wanna have fun – and that’s what we’re here for!

Stocking fillers
If you’re not sure what your nearest and dearest would like, why not get them a gift voucher? Music shops, dvd retailers, clothes shops, bookstores – they all offer vouchers, but none pack the same punch as an Xtreme.ie gift voucher! Ours can be redeemed against any of our products – including family adventure days, kids’ parties and outdoor adventure package – at any time throughout the year. Like any Christmas gift voucher, your present can be used at a time that suits the recipient – only ours is more exciting!

In the Driving Seat…

Posted on November 19th, 2012

Ireland may be small, but there’s so much to see – and driving is by far the most popular and convenient way to get around for visitors and locals alike. Irish road trips – from the top of the country to the bottom and zigzagging everywhere in between – have become a popular phenomenon and at Xtreme.ie, we’re all for a bit of adventure behind the wheel.

Whether you live here or are thinking of visiting for a change in landscape, there are lots of scenic drives in Ireland to enjoy – all offering gorgeous views and stunning Irish landmarks worth visiting. And the best thing about it is that driving adventures can be undertaken all year round, regardless of the short days and cold conditions.

Some of the best Irish road trips include:

The Ring of Kerry, County Kerry – well known worldwide, the Ring of Kerry is a 179km circuit that takes in many diverse landscapes and offers plentiful sites such as medieval ruins, the Skelligs, gorgeous loughs (lakes), lush meadowland, and glorious strands including Dingle with its famous sea-critter, Fungi the Dolphin. The stretch between Waterville and Caherdaniel is considered by many to be the most alluring.

Doolough Valley, Connemara – although the Sky Road just outside of Clifden is better known, the 31km drive through Doolough Valley is arguably the most beautiful scenic drive in this part of Ireland. Winding its way through the Mweelrea Mountains and Sheefry Hills, the gorgeous lake is the natural Irish landmark that’ll long be remembered.

Killarney National Park, County Kerry – The infamous Killarney Lakes are one of the most photographed Irish landmarks. Drive the 33km scenic drive to take in Moll’s Gap and Ladies’ View for stunning views over Lough Leane. Visit the Torc Waterfall and take in some history at Muckross House. You can even extend the trip around the Iveragh Peninsula if you can’t get enough of the fabulous scenery.

Copper Coast, Waterford – Aptly named because of the copper mines that were prevalent in this area, this 120 km Irish road trip kicks off in Dungarvan, with its gorgeous coastline. Leading you through the only geopark in Europe, you get to view the majestic Comeragh Mountains, the Nire Valley and Stradbally Cove. Full of dramatic scenery and Irish welcomes, this is a scenic drive in Ireland that’s not to be missed.

But if you want a little more action than motorways and meandering country lanes, some adventure driving may be your thing. At xtreme.ie we offer a variety of exciting four wheel drive experiences that you can enjoy with friends, as part of a company, a stag or hen weekend or even as a Christmas party with a difference.

Build your own pedal cart and compete to the max with Thunder Races, or climb muddy inclines and tackle various off-road surfaces with our Xtreme.ie Off Road Driving Experience.  Take hold of a powerbuggy wheel – it has two engines and needs two drivers – for a truly unforgettable off-road driving adventure! Too much throttle and the vehicle will spin out of control, making this hysterical fun for both drivers and observers.

If you’re more interested in learning about cars than commandeering them in weird and wonderful ways, a brand new series of Driving Seat, Ireland’s only car review show, has arrived on TV3 at 10.30pm every Tuesday. Starting last month, Xpose’s Kirsteen O’Sullivan dons her driving gloves to test some of the newest cars in Ireland this year, alongside experts Aidan Timmons and Alan Ennis.

Ready to answer your most burning questions – such as how does the new VW campervan cope on the boreens? Can the SEAT Alhambra survive outside of the city? Is the compact SUV Mazda CX5 a real contender for Irish car of the year? What is Sky Active technology? – TV3 Driving Seat explores how the latest motors perform for Irish motorists.

So whether it’s road trips or off-road road adventures, solo drives, team work or a bit of TV3 Driving Seat you’re looking for, take hold of the wheel and set yourself up for a bit of driving adventure. We’d love to hear how you get on. Happy driving!
